The Argentine government has joined the Pumas' bid to be added to an expanded Tri-Nations series. The Argentine Rugby Union had already made representations about joining the competition if it were to be expanded.

The International Rugby Board (IRB) are reportedly applying pressure on SANZAR (South African New Zealand and Australian Rugby) to include Argentina - the sixth best Test side in the world - in the Tri-Nations, creating a Four Nations contest.
