In this section we list some of the results from past Tri Nations
tournaments. You can also check out the history of the tournament

2007
World cup year and as there is enough rugby going round, the expanded
Tri-nations falls away and we reverted back to the old format of teams
playing each other twice. New Zealand again were the winners although
they did stutter in Australia.

2006
The Tri-nations gets expanded and teams play each other three times
- not just twice. New Zealand won the 2006 Tournament with two games
to spare. They had yet to play South Africa in South Africa but due
to wins in Australia and at home they earned enough points to take the
title.

2005
New Zealand started the 2005 Tournament by warming up with a home tour
of the British & Irish Lions. After thrashing the Lions 3-0, they
continued their domination and only South Africa were the only team
to beat them. Wallabies failed to win a game.

2004
South Africa had a new coach in Jake White and a new team after a disaster
of a World cup. New running lines and defences helped the Springboks
to their first title since 1998. Each team won two matches but the South
Africans won on points differential.

2003
World Cup year and under John Mitchell New Zealand started the tournament
by racking up scores of 50 points + on the opposition.

2002
Australia's reign as Tri Nations champions came to an end when the All
Blacks won the championship again. The tournament ended as Werner Greeff
scored a last minute try sealing a victory for South Africa.

2001
Australia warmed up for the Tri-Nations tour with a visit from the British
& Irish Lions. In the second British & Irish Lions test at half
time the Aussies were 1 match down and looked like losing the second
but they came back on for the second half and didn't look back the whole
year after winning the British & Irish Lions series and the Tri-nations.

2000
Australia, the World Champions at the time, won their first Tri Nations
championship in 2000. That tournament is also notable for Australia’s
opening match against New Zealand at Stadium Australia where a world
record 109,874 spectators attended.

1999
World Cup year and as usual New Zealand looked like a well oiled machine.
The tournament started with a humiliation of South Africa as the Kiwis
racked up a 28-0 score line. Australia were the only team to the All
Blacks but they still won the tournament.

1998
It was a year ahead of the World cup and South Africa were in the middle
of a fantastic unbeaten run. Their coach was Nick Mallet and in those
days players like Bob Skinstad, Stefan Terblanche & Percy Montgomery
were new on the scene. They were good times for South Africa while New
Zealand were stuggling like they had never done before. They lost every
match.

1997
South Africa warmed up for their 1997 Tri Nations tournament with a
British & Irish Lions series where they won the last match but lost
the series. South Africa missed out on the Tri nations spoils by coming
second to New Zealand.

1996
The first ever Tri-Nations tournament and was won by New Zealand. The
first match of the tournament saw New Zealand run out 43 - 6 winners
over Australia. They were undefeated in the 1996 Tri-Nations.
